The ancients said: Reading thousands of books and traveling thousands of miles. This adage inspires future generations to read more but not limited to books, and to broaden their horizons through practice. Today, we also encourage students to gain new discoveries and perception via "travel".
Let's join the G2 teacher of CISS and see how Mr. Alfonso leads the students to carry out geography-related unit of inquiry! In the class, he linked English with geographical knowledge, teamwork, and skill development, introduced new vocabulary related to space and map directions to the students, and led the students to explore geography-related knowledge, learn how to use maps, and what to explore about traveling.
Where have you traveled? What is the local culture like and what kind of food do they have? As small as a weekend trip, as large as the exploration of the earth’s continents in the Age of Exploration, under the guidance of the teacher, the students have conducted a full range of inquiry on geographic knowledge and related new words, and at the same time mastered the use of maps. In the next few classes, they will also build a map of the school and exercise their sense of space and orientation through grouping!
Difference brings diversity, knowing promotes understanding.
Only through mutual accommodation and respect
can we expect cultural exchange and social harmony.
Next, let’s look forward to more inquiry together!
At CISS, we integrate “skills, knowledge, concepts, attitudes, and action", the five important elements of the PYP stage into each unit of inquiry in each transdisciplinary. At the same time, we fully respect and mobilize children's initiative and lead them in each link to reflect on their own shortcomings and the way forward in time.
At CISS, what we teach students is not only more authentic language and English thinking, but also how to be responsible for their own learning and let them become active learners!
