Executive Director of CISS Interviewed by the News Agency
On the afternoon of July 6th, the Sino-Canada Concord schools held a grand graduation ceremony in the Great Hall of the People, in which Dr. Peng Jianhua, chairman of the Sino-Canada Concord Schools, personally presented the graduates with their diplomas. Mr. Jim Nickel, Acting Director of the Embassy of Canada in China, Mr. Shawn Graham, Former Governor of New Brunswick (Canada), Member of the National Advisory Committee on Education and Honorary President of the World Federation of UNESCO Associations, Mr. Dr. Brett Fairbairn, President of Thomson University in Canada, and other Chinese and foreign dignitaries, as well as graduates, parents and people from all walks of life, attended the event, totaling more than 1,800 people. This is also the only high school in China, that holds a graduation ceremony in the Great Hall of the People.
On March 26, 1997, Beijing Sino-Canada school was established in a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People as the first Sino-foreign cooperative school to implement general high school education. After this, the first batch of Sino-foreign cooperative schools were stablished through reviews performed by the Ministry of Education. This is also the time when the Ministry of Education first contacted the reform schools, the first schools in mainland China to join the World School Alliance organization, that would be constructed as the first batch of experimental schools with an independent curriculum.
These schools are run by Normal University Affiliated Experimental Middle School of Beijing in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of New Brunswick, Canada, and the Sino-Canadian International Education Investment Group, and headed by a board of directors. Around that time, Dr. Peng Jianhua, chairman of both the Canada's International Education Investment Group and the UNESCO Association Beijing Club, won the "Great Wall Friendship Award" in Beijing.
Since then, the Canadian International Education Investment Group has carried out international educational cooperation activities with several provinces in China, and has built nearly 30 international schools and Sino-Canada schools in more than 20 cities, including Beijing, Guangdong, Anhui, Guizhou, Hunan, Shandong, Gansu and Liaoning, receiving students from nearly 153 countries and regions around the world, counting to nearly 10,000 alumni. The quality of our schools has been unanimously praised by the United Nations, domestic and foreign educational circles, students, parents and multinational institutions, and is recognized as "a model of successful Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools", being characterized as helpful for the development of the local economies and the internationalization and modernization of education in all the cities where the schools have been created.
This year, 100% of the nearly a thousand high school graduates from our Sino-Canada schools in Beijing, Shenzhen, Anhui, Guiyang, Changsha, Lanzhou, Harbin, Hefei, Qingdao, Xi'an, among others have all been admitted to renown universities all over the world, with more than 80% of our graduates receiving scholarships from foreign universities.
Ms. Duan Yuna, Executive Director of the Canadian International School of Shenyang (CISS), represented the school at the event and gave media interviews:
Among the many international schools and Sino-Canada Concord schools owned by the Canadian International Education Group, our Canadian International School of Shenyang is one of the youngest. Participating in this year's graduation ceremony, encourages us to continue developing our school full of confidence. This confidence is born from two facts: first, that Shenyang is the center of a rapid development in northeast China, which creates a huge demand for high-quality international education; second, that during the ceremony I just witnessed, I saw the excellent graduates we trained through our group's educational theory and teaching methods. I look forward to seeing our CISS graduates joining these excellent students as equals in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing as soon as possible in such a ceremony, through CISS to the world.
According to reports, the Canadian International School of Shenyang-CISS was established in May 2017, as the first international school founded by the Canadian International Education Group in Northeast China, filling the gap in the development of international education in Liaoning. The school, which officially opened its enrollment in early 2018, is a comprehensive 15-grade curriculum school with kindergarten, primary school, middle school and high school. CISS provides an English based state-of-the-art Canadian curriculum, with foreign teachers professionally qualified to carry out daily education and educational activities. CISS accepts the children of foreigners or with foreign green cards, as well as those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Our fundamental purpose is to cultivate well-developed high-quality international talents, for what we adopt the world's most advanced Power School system, whose student status is recognized by the Department of Education of New Brunswick, Canada. Moreover, our students are also eligible for the HSK Chinese certification exam and we have been certified by the International IB Organization and are eligible to offer IB courses. All of these conditions are not available in other international schools in Liaoning Province at present, so our school has a clear advantage over other schools in the area that is only going to get better with experience and time.
