Recently, the Canadian International School of Shenyang (CISS) received two pieces of good news from the United States the artworks of the two of our students, Jana Diestelkamp (Germany) and Lily Park (Korea), would be displayed in the 4th NO-BOundaries International Art Exhibition. They were also invited to attend the New York Exhibition Opening ceremony at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, on August 14, 2019.
NO-BOundaries is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City that aims to promote future generation’s global awareness and social responsibility through artistic education and to instill in them a desire to become socially responsible Global Citizens. Through the strength of art education, the NO-BOundaries International Art Exhibition has raised global citizens' attention to many social issues and has promoted communication and cooperation of worldwide culture.
In February 2019, the NO-BOundaries International Art Exhibition co-sponsored by the NOBO Committee of the United States and Columbia University Global Center was officially launched. An international tour with the theme of "A Drop of Water" will be held in Beijing, New York, Paris, Nairobi, Rio de Janeiro and other cities. The NO-BOundaries International Art Exhibition will join hands with children artists from all over the world to explore together the relationship between water and nature, life and history. Through the power of art, it has aroused more people's awareness for saving even "a drop of water", and assume the responsibility and obligation as citizens of the world.
After the news of the initiative was sent out, the Organizing Committee received a large number of paintings of primary and secondary school students from various countries around the world. The committee invited many experts from many countries to form the international authoritative academic committees, including experts from Columbia University, Beijing Normal University of China, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Peking University and Capital Normal University, to ensure the validity of the evaluation of the submissions to the exhibition.
Two artworks from CISS were selected from grade7th and 9th grade students, Lily Park's “Squeezed Dry”and Jana Diestelkamp's “Time is Running Out”. The two works show the seriousnessof the problem of the lack of water in two different ways. The two students arevery excited to have received this honor and thanked Miss Dugdale and all theother CISS teachers for their training and guidance.As the leaders of CIS have said before andCISS has always adhered to, encouraging all students to become lifelonglearners with environmental and global awareness is the school's most importantmission. Accordingly, CISS has held many social activities with environmentalprotection as the theme since its establishment a year ago. We believe thisschool mentality and its implementation are the main drive for the excellentwork of our two students.
